[Heritance Kandalama, Sri Lanka s most awarded hotel]

Is this the hotel managed by Aitken Spence known as Kandalama Hotel or the one known as The Culture Club managed by Jetwing Hotels or a completely different hotel????

    Kiwi

nope...this is the Kandalama run by aitken spence...

the one that created some serious issues with the environmental protection groups since it was been built on a sensitive nature reserve in sigiriya...

It`s supposed to be one of the `cleanest` hotels in SL in terms of tackling waste etc..

    Dautless,

I haven`t had a chance to visit this place, but I clearly remember incidents before the building of it. Apart from environmental issues one of the arguments was that foreigners may induce SANKARA GATHI to villagers because of these hotels. The way the things are happening now, I believe even SANKARA SUDDAS will be shocked if they visit certain social gatherings in Sri Lanka.

    Kivikanga

No they are two different resorts. Kandalama is in the north side of Wewa and Culture Club (Now call as Amaya Lake)is in South side of Wewa.

Amaya lake is now managed by Amaya resorts & Spas limited at Echelon Towers

    Vishnu

    Double ditto that mate :)

    very true...

I would say that`s one of the biggest problems certain communities all over the world face...

they want to hold on to their `values` but also want to jump in the globalization bandwagon...

very difficult to do without letting go of some of those `values`

    at least for some people...

And suddas who visit those areas go there because of the remoteness, the village feel etc...

    not exactly to party around....

Those happen either in colombo out south-western coastal belt areas...

It`s shifting towards east also as arugam bay area etc. gets it`s infra structure base developed...

nobody can stand in the way of changing times in think...

Case of majority ruling i think lol :)

    Staff and management,

congratulations, a well deserved award.I love this hotel.

This hotel was built during UNP time. SLFP that was in the opposition opposed tooth and nail to stop this project. Thanks to determination of UNP Leadars today we have award winning Kandalama. Down with stupid SLFP.

    Dauntless, Pathmanaba,

Thanks for the info. I too thought it might be the hotel managed by Aitken Spence. Lovely place great location with fantastic views of the lake from the Sigiriya Wing.

Only draw back, if you happen to be in a room toilet at night some one sitting in a boat out on the lake would have a fantastic view of what`s happening inside the toilet as there are only large glass panes with no blinds!! LOL!

Anyway the hotel well deserves the award!!

[Anyway the hotel well deserves the award!! ]

And the UNP government which promoted this project no matter what hurdles were put in its path to progress by pathetic junta SLFP supporters.
