* Terrorism eradicated due to correct leadership:
* Rays of economic development:
The Lanka Samasamaja Party (LSSP) pledged its total support to President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the upcoming presidential elections.
Addressing a press briefing at the N.M. Perera Centre yesterday, Science and Technology, Minister Prof. Tissa Vitharana said their party s allegiance to President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been sealed as they have faith in the strength of President Rajapaksa s leadership, which is confirmed by the country s victory against terrorism.
Our country has seen a great many brilliant Generals with the likes of Denzil Kobbekaduwa. Yet why couldn t we win the war all these years? The answer is that we lacked correct political guidance. Therefore this great victory can be directly attributed to the President s political leadership, Prof. Vitharana said.
The Minister said their party s pledge towards the President was not merely based on the victory of the war, but also the fruitful economic policy in progress. The adverse effects of the free economic system on the Sri Lankan economy has been much. The trend of privatization of profitable Government Institutions and the sale of valuable natural resources had run riot during the UNP tenure of 2002-2004, leading the country towards long-term economic downfall.
This process has been halted, and despite the great cost of war, the country was starting to see the rays of economic development, he said.
Samasamaja Youth Organization Chief Secretary Chameera Perera said they had decided to extend their unqualified support to the President as their party believes that he is the only leader capable of continuing the country s forward progress. The LSSP being the oldest political party in the country, had always been in the vanguard in raising public awareness on potential dangerous political decisions, he said. Party members Wimalasiri De Mel and Percy Wickremasekera also spoke.
