Opposition UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday charged that the government which was claiming full credit for the success in the war had disregarded 5,000 soldiers who were killed in a single attack and 20,000 who were wounded.

Addressing a meeting at the Polonnaruwa district office yesterday, Mr. Wickremesinghe said the government did not want to give credit to any one else and just wanted to cling on to power at any cost.

He said the general public also played a role in the military success together with the security forces personnel who made the supreme sacrifice. The government is only making an effort to earn power and wealth from every aspect, he charged.

Mr. Wickremesinghe said the country was heading towards a chaotic situation and feared we might lose our sovereignty by this process.

He said this situation would not help farmers to get water and fertilizer for their crops.

He said it was high time to see the end of this regime which was controlled by a few persons.

He also said while governments in other countries of the world maintained the needy the Sri Lanka government maintained the sovereign family.

The Rajapaksa government now enunciates a new argument that people in countries like America, China, and Europe undergo suffering due to the collapse in world economy. Their argument is that in that scenario, people of this country too should face the same fate. The economy in those countries may collapse but the governments never failed to understand their grievances. Those deprived of employment were given subsidies. Farmers and the disabled were given more assistance in the necessary fields. Even the poor in countries like America possess vehicles. The American government has taken steps to award five thousand dollars to an individual who buys a new vehicle manufactured in America after disposing a vehicle used for over seven years. That course of action has helped boost the industry while ensuring employment opportunities. In contrast this government has spent 183 billion of rupees on vehicles for the sovereign family, he charged.

Addressing further he said the European countries had provided houses for low income groups and the working class contributing to the promotion of the construction industry, thereby solving the housing problem and protecting the industry whereas this country s government was building palaces for the sovereign family.

Not long ago he & his party ridiculed the army every step of the way, now he's trying to elevate himself to be a saint. Only some of the people get fooled by his rhetorical speeches.

The govt must be ignoring the capture of Thoppigala which was only a 'useless jungle'!

Anyway.... isn't any 'booruwa' able to fight a war???????

And......even the commander who led these soldiers was not suitable to lead even the Salvation Army.......!

Ranna poniyata hadissiye hadila thiyena hamudaa kekkukma chanda ajeernaya nisa wenda ethi!!

He talks about supreme Sacrifices.

Forget all CFAs, who he is hanging with and what he is doing.

Not long ago, his view was Army commanders did not know how to read a map.

Finally, when congratulated the forces he needed the talk written on a piece of paper. As the prime minister who involved with LTTE, as a Politicians who lived there for decades what he did was simply SHAMELESS.
