The Army Chief toured the area after the capture of the strategically important towns of the LTTE and emboldened the war heroes. Expressing views to ITN on the future operations of the troops, he opined that the troops kept on advancing into LTTE held areas in the North in a period little over one year. They had gone 55 kilometres into these areas and had been advancing on the West of the A-9 Highway. The troops have captured about 50 kilometres of the beach front on the Western coast and also reached Uilankulam and Thunukkai. Thunukkai was one of the famous alternative places of Prabhakaran. The LTTE leader had most of his administration controlled from their area. The troops have moved 15 kilometres North of Thunukkai. They have already gone within 12 kilometres of the Kilinochchi town limits. The Army Chief was optimistic that very soon Kilinochchi will be under attack and they can now reach Kilinochchi with
