What an editorial! Congrats! This is the voice of the Buddhist/Sinhalas mindset that is euphoric in the expectation that the genocide of the last five decades will be completed and Sri Lanka will be free of Tamils. Buddhist/Sinhalas have to congratulate themselves that almost every Tamil in SL was oppressed and displaced more than once, almost half have been driven away from the SL shores, the remaining living by the minute, hour and day fearing for their lives and now facing almost certain extinction. For the editorial to claim that those still living in SL under a reign of terror yearn for the return of these very same oppressors more so to free them the so-called `autocratic` rule of the resistance/LTTE borders on the absurdity. The Australian government on behalf of Australians has apologised recently for what amounted to a historical genocide on the aborigines committed a century ago. The SL genocide is a 21st century phenomena that still progressing that it is impertinence for the editorial to make reference to such colonial injustice elsewhere but not under one`s nose. SL proudly claims that SL is a model democracy that its genocide success judged by international standards puts to shame Israel, Sudan and even the former Yugoslavia. This tragedy will remain forever a black chapter in the history of the Tamils in SL.

Why can`t people understand the facts, if there is a genuine political solution the LTTE will disappear into the thin air in no time, Sinhala racists don`t want to devolve power and they can`t devolve power to NorthEast, the extreme Sinhala Buddhists Talibans will not allow that to happen.

As long as the Sinhala Buddhist Talibans are hell bent on to block any meaningful solution there won`t be any shortage for Prabaharans.

East is an example for the baseless aligation of Parasuram!

  • 14 Aug 2008 14:45:46 GMT

    East is the perfect example.

Sinhala Talibans don`t want to give the land and police power to the current Eastern PC, devolving power to NorthEast is all deceptive talk, now the Indians have perfectly understood the cheating nature of the Southeren politicians, it has been going on since 1948.

    Who believes your BS?

Not just thousands of Tamils in the police force, but also run by an ex-tiger Mr. Pilaiayan/Chandrakanthan!!

There may be a small region of north , currently even the smaller wanni , however since the majority of the political figures represent almost the entire country they are not politicians of the south . This is a misconception, as a member of parliament from Anuradhapura does no fall anywhere near Galle. This northern town of Sri Lanka is the historical heartland of the golden age of this country that witnessed excellence in literature, art, construction and agro-engineering. Even up till the 20th century the biggest resevoirs and dams in the world were here. Rajendra-Chola and genocide expansion must take part the blame for its destruction.

Rama to Ellala, Raja adi raja to madras seapoys genocide of islanders runs to many millions. Hope we get an appology!,someday!

    Sivasubramani?

As far as the modern episode of this traditional problem, the record of non combatant civilians killed by Prabhakaran up to end of 2004 alone stood at 5831 Tamils in lamp post style executions,1131 Muslim mostly in massacres and 6163 Sinhalese peasants for the crime of leading a peaceful life and getting about in their day to day needs.

The Sinhala university students in the Jaffna campus were chased out and some 30,000 Sinhalese and 90 000 Muslims who had been living in Jaffna from the times their generations could account for were chased out and were languishing in refugee camps in the South.

The killing of 700 police officers, massacre of 29 Buddhist priests, attack at Sri Dalada Maligawa, the assassination of the country s President and the massacre of 183 pilgrims at Sri Maha Bhodi.Further as the recent census would show, more Tamils have come to settle down in Colombo today than there ever was What better insurance could a civil society offer to a `besieged` minority than the time tested empirical examples?

    Sivasubramani, appology?

Prof. A. J. Wilson, son-in-law of the father of separatism, S. J. V. Chelvanayakam. He wrote: There is however still another option available to the Tamil militants, namely that of slow strangulation of the political economy of the Sinhala-dominated island. This could take the form of effective international propaganda. There are militant Tamil expatriate groups in India, West Germany, Britain Canada and the United States and they had achieved a measure of success. Prof. Wilson confirms the violent politics of the northern leadership. Non-violent politics would not fit into the violent programme of the Tamils adumbrated by Prof. Wilson. By 1976 they had reached a point where they could not go back to find non-violent options because they had thrived in electoral politics by demonizing the Sinhala-Buddhists as the enemy of the Tamils who must be eliminated/defeated to attain their political goals. The sadistic politics of the Gandhians of Jaffna made 1983 an inevitability. Their declared methodology was to get the Tamils killed by the Sinhalese. Nothing gave them greater satisfaction, says Prof. Wilson.

The violent and cruel discrimination enforced by the Vellahla elite under the sanctions of the Hindutva ideology makes Jaffna the darkest chapter in Sri Lankan history. Under the worst of times, neither the Sinhala community nor the Sinhala governments , as they say, had oppressed and suppressed the Tamils, or any other minority, the way the casteist Vellahala elite, or the Pol Potist regime of Prabhakaran had stamped on the Tamils. When the entire leadership of the Jaffna Tamils was decimated by Prabhakaran the Tamils became the leading exterminators of the Tamils. S. Chandrahasan, son of S. J. V. Chelvanayakam, said that the Tamil Tigers have killed more Tamils than all others put together. V. Anandasangaree, the TULF President, who confirmed Chandrahasan s verdict on the Tamil Tigers, added that he had the right to go to Jaffna and protest when Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike opened the Jaffna University but he can t step into Jaffna now under Prabhakaran s regime. Statistics confirm that the majority of Tamils prefer to live with the Sinhalese than under the Pol Potist regime of Prabhakaran. Yet the ideologically fixated propagandists/apologists on both sides of the divide blame the Sinhalese. The liquidation of Tamils by the Tamils, starting from Chelvanayakam who led the innocent Tamil youth like Pied Piper to the music of elusive Eelam, are glorified while the blame for that too, ironically, is heaped on the Sinhalese. The collective violence, discrimination (even Karuna broke away from the Tamil Tigers accusing the northern leadership of discriminating against the Eastern Tamils) and oppression of the Tamils by the Tamils, denying them their basic human rights, stands as an unparalleled criminal record in Sri Lankan history. Dr. Noel Nadesan, the Editor of Uthayam, the Australian community paper for Tamils summed it when he stated: Tigers are the enemy of Tamils, not the Sinhalese, (Sri Lanka Guardian July 24th, 2008). The unmitigated of the violence of the Tamils against the Tamils indicts the Tamil leadership from feudal and colonial to modern times.

Also the difference between conventional and unconventional modes of war, according to Colonel Hariharan of Chennai, is that firepower is concentrated in the former while in the latter it is unleashed in penny packets . It should be obvious to any observer and all sufferers of Eelam wars over the last thirty years that the penny packets of violence have inflicted far greater havoc on our civilian populations and physical resources than the unleashing of concentrated firepower in territorial battlegrounds.

Bishop of Mannar Rev. Rayappu Joseph was also of the view when questioned Q: Don t you think that the LTTE is mainly responsible for all these destruction?

A: Yes, the LTTE is responsible,..

So its not too late for apoologies!

(If you know of any pro-tiger websites that is confident of having blogger and comment fascilities, please let me know. After all it should be fair, a level playing field, if not the rules of engagement must change).

Living in the past, does not help us to solve the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the whole country.. North to South, East to West.

Most of our so-called leaders, have let down all community groups.

It might take time, perhaps years but only the Truth will eventually prevail.
