Three youth drowned at Kandalama Lake while batching yesterday around 2.15pm and later the bodies were found at around 3.35pm following an extensive search operation by a team of police divers.
The victims were from three different families who were on their way to Dambulla on a trip together with friends, Police Spokesman SSP Ranjith Gunasekara said.
The three youths are Praneeth Samarasekare (22), Isuri Lakmal (17) and Malinda Samarasekare (18) from Araliya Uyana, Depanama, Pannipitiya. Isuru Lakmal was studying for his G.C.E ordinary level while Malinda Samarasekare was an Advanced level student. Dilantha was to join the Navy next week.
A number of 45 persons have been have gone on a pilgrimage to Namal Uyana and later they had gone to the Dambulla for worshipping. On their way they had stopped by the Kandalama lake to have lunch.
Later the crowd had gone for a bath at around 2.30pm where the three youths had drowned. Villagers have been searching for the body for almost an hour and at 3.35pm the bodies of the youth were found by a team of police divers.
The bodies are at the mortuary of the Dambulla hospital and post mortem is to be held today(10).
