Sri Lanka s breakaway rebel party, Tamileela Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) political chief, Shivaneshdorai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan said that the Tamils in the East now have the opportunity to elect a Tamil Chief Minister to the Eastern Province.
Speaking at an election rally held at Eravur in Batticaloa yesterday, Pillayan assured that no one would be able to stop this become a reality if the people in the East back his party at the upcoming Provincial Council elections.
We have corrected the mistakes that had been done earlier. We have chosen the correct path. We have built close relationships with the present government. They (Government) have given us many promises and to make use of these promises we need your support, he told the people.
He said that TMVP is contesting for 15 electorates in the East with the government and if it could win all those electorates, his party would become the one that has won largest number of seats under the UPFA. Then, no one would be able to stop a Tamil to become a Chief Minster, he added.
He said, the people in the East have got the opportunity to cast their votes at this election in support of the political structure they have been looking for, the leadership and the socio-economic development they wanted.
