What the late minister Jeyaraj said was absolutely correct, the best way to deal this abuse of duty free permits given to MP`s , doctors or any government servants is arrangement of legal transfer. Because you can have only one car for five years though you sold or not, It`s your privilege for which the government gives for your committed service ( may be not true ). You can`t sell your car or permit and go for a another one till five years or next term of permits. So this can`t be defined as a business. Because all doctors or all monks can`t get permits . Only eligible people could get. Since government can`t give money for their services, the duty free permits are issued as to reward. This is not illegal may be not ethical. You may not know what these people do after selling their permits. I know personally some buy small vehicles, some makes their houses, some arranges marriages to their children ( specially in rural areas ), Who gives money to buy vehicles. Vehicles can`t be leased out or financed even. Then should very expansive permit be used to buy a Maruti car or Indian double cab ???

Your privilege is privilege , no one can challenge it though sell, or eat it.

Do you know this time how many government servants didn`t apply for permits since they can`t sell and don`t have money to buy new cars . Only rich doctors were able to buy this time. Check with your friend about what I am telling.

How come the IGP hasn`t locked up Mervin the thug?

  • 19 Apr 2008 22:06:06 GMT

My question is also whether guilty or not why Mervyn was not arrested at all.

Why we have to accept that Jayntha Wijesekara did something of great criminal - nature than Mervyn.

I think, Police lost respect because of this.

[[ Because you can have only one car for five years though you sold or not, ]]

In the west, most people use their old clunkers for decades. Only Not that rich Sri Lanka wants their motor vehicles to be replaced every five years.

It is their laws, their money (powerless people have no say on that) and everything is their - I mean those who make laws.
