Justice and Law Reforms Minister Amarasiri Dodangoda yesterday dismissed claims that he would quit his ministerial portfolio over colleague Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe s criticism. `There is absolutely no truth in this,` the minister told The Island , asserting that the National List MP s claim of the rapid deterioration of law and order was baseless.
Emphasising that there was no shortcoming on his part, Dodangoda accused a person from among his personal staff of leaking false information to the press. `He was responsible for this rumour,` he said. `I have no option but to dismiss him,` he said while blaming the official for being involved in a mud slinging campaign against him.
The minister said that some of his advisories had tried to poison the mind of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. He said that he was a Rajapaksa loyalist and friend of the President. `I have known him for 40 years,` he said, asserting that various interested parties were causing problems by spreading false information.
He claimed that Rajapakshe, who was a lawyer by profession, wanted his portfolio. He was interested in Justice and Law Reforms portfolio and as he had failed to secure it, he attacked the ministry, Dodangoda said. He said he was happy about the achievements of his ministry over the past two years.
Dodangoda said that the Justice Ministry s performance report for 2006 -2007 proved Rajapakshe s claims baseless.
