Oil, hitherto held sacred, and a strong bargaining chip would soon claim its power slot in this government s positive development strategies, said President Mahinder Rajapaksa, addressing the Nation at the 60th independence Day celebrations in Colombo, yesterday. He said Just as oil reserves that would be harnessed in the future from the sea off Mannar and Electricity that would be generated from the Noracholai and Upper Kotmale power projects this indicator will have great importance for Sri Lanka in the future
Commenting on the President s Independence Day message in particular reference to oil exploration, Minister of Petroleum Resources, A.H.M.Fowzie said a cabinet Paper would be submitted on Wednesday relevant to bids already in the pipe line.
He said apart from North Sea Oil exploration off the Northern coast of Sri Lanka expected to be a viable proposition, possibility of oil inland in the Jaffna Peninsula too would be explored.
South Coastal oil reserves off the Hambantota coast are expected to yield positive results.
Already, there have been positive bidders submitting their interest statements, presently being evaluated.
Fowzie said so far interest bidding from India, China, and Cyprus, have had positive influx for evaluation.

If this is not the replay of the Sirimavo Election ploy of the 70's, a stark reminder to the president is that Oil is no panacea for the ills of the country and that the 5th largest exporter of oil, Nigeria, is on the brink of a failed state and Sudan with sizable oil revenue is already a failed state.

You have correctly put a lot of question marks. It is true that there is nothing worthwhile up there. Only political milage. There is no oil in Slankan shores. Absolute no. That is why none of the big companies has not bid.
Ranil knew that. Norwigians knew that. CBK also knew that. Only moda Sirima and MR don't know that.
With regard to you questions, better ask JVP. They are as confused as you are. |

President confident Oil will gush from Mannar
This fellow MR is trying con world and borrow money from it. Already bankrupt SL Sinhala government borrowed 500 million $ from HSBC and 50 million $ from ICICI bank to finance its war against Tamils and now trying to bank Mannar Oil reserves.
I would like to remind the plight of Maria Meena American ship which tried to smuggle the 'illumanite NR' from Tamil Eelam Pulmodai .
I would like to remind the world not to take granted of Tamil Eelam soil sea and air. In return for your investment , will get Sinhala con-man Mahinda Rajapaksha's Used underwear. |

| So when we discover this fairytale oil deposit the government will presumably do the right thing, i.e.: appoint another member of the Rajapakse dynasty as a new MP and as the Minister for Oil-related Corruption? |
