Instead of punishing Mervyn, SLRC workers being harassed - JVP
Friday, 1 February 2008 - 11:46 AM SL Time

Though SLFP General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena and other senior Ministers promised to take disciplinary action against Minister Mervyn Silva, who along with some thugs entered the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation and assaulted the News Director, so far nothing positive has happened. Instead, investigations were being made to victimise the workers of the Rupavahini Corporation, JVP trade union leader, Parliamentarian K. D. Lalkantha told The Island yesterday (31).

The entire country knew what had happened at the SLRC but now there were investigations taking place against the employees who are being questioned as to who authorised the use of cameras, air time and so forth, he said.

`This procedure is totally wrong. People who entered the SLRC with goons were not punished, but the workers have been threatened, stabbed and intimidated during the last few days. All trade unions of the SLRC, irrespective of their party allegiance, gathered recently to discuss the situation,` he said.

Lal Kantha said there had been instances in the past where when a doctor or a Divisional Secretary was threatened or assaulted by a politician, protests were staged and immediate action was taken against the culprits. However, though the entire country witnessed the ugly incident at the SLRC, no action has been taken against the trespassers, he said.

`We, as trade unionists, have considered the plight of the employees of SLRC and decided to take stern union action,` Lal Kantha said.

It doesn't matter if it's JVP or even the LTTE...
The truth and the facts are that MR is protecting this low class thug...
It's disgraceful when a president of the country can't take a proper stance against these sorta underworld gangsters and set a proper example rather than be a spineless coward and protect them...
The entire country knows what happened and what type of a guy this silva is...
It's shameful beyond the power of words to explain that actions like these are going without justice being served..

And shame on those people who support these sorta actions

MR is in a position to change things IMHO...
loads of people are behind him... he can and should make an attempt to change the way things are done in this country...
If not SL will never improve and it's down right unfair for the future generations

Assuming you are right, do you think this system must continue or should be stopped forthwith?

None of them did anything as low as this. Stop encouraging criminality as it could cost you dearly some day.

What you say is exactly correct, But
my dad said he wanted SWRD to do the same but never happened.
My uncle wanted JR to do the same never happened
Now
You and me wants MR to do different
So,
I made a visit to his residence because we made him president
I request you to go and see him,
You will realize the bitter truth.
