Journalists have strongly protested against the views expressed by Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe to a Daily Mirror journalist in a threatening manner.
The incident took place at a media briefing at the Opposition Leader s office at Cambridge Terrace this morning. Responding to a query raised by the journalist of the Daily Mirror newspaper, Mr. Wickramasinghe had responded in a threatening manner. He queried whether Daily Mirror was a paper of the Vijaya Group of Newspapers or that of the Jathika Hela Urumaya party. He threatened the journalist to get a lengthy statement from the Hela Urumaya and publish in the newspaper. A journalist of the newspaper had described him as an ineffective leader. He strongly criticised it. Mr. Wickramasinghe said the more queries the journalist raised would make his paper face difficulties. He also requested that the journalist who published articles criticising him be accompanied for the next news briefing. Mr. Wickramasinghe was also critical of the Chief Editor of the Daily Mirror. On several earlier occasions, Ranil Wickramasinghe has humiliated, threatened and insulted journalists. He had assaulted a journalist during a media briefing when he was serving as a Minister. Very recently he insulted journalists at the Sri Dalada Maligawa by saying that they should be ordained.
Even UNP Parliamentarian Lakshman Kiriella at several news briefings had been critical of journalists which drew strong protests. The journalists claim that the media policy of the Opposition Leader and the UNP is clearly displayed by these incidents.

since this is ITN well I dont know how over exaggerated this news is... but if it is true, it is not good for a party that has even slight hopes of coming to power... media is important factor if a party is willing to consider to at least get into power.. specially when it is the main opposition party... |

This is total rubbish ! The Daily Mirror that started a good web site with breaking news and comments from readers now publishes only news favourable to the government and doesn't publish any comments detrimental to themselves or the rulers.
Pitiful how so called independent newspapers compromise themselves ! |

Some time ago Traitor Ranil made a public declaration that all Rural Businessmen will be sent to Somalia.
Not only member's Rural Chamber's of commerce, but all jounalists critical of Triator Ranil will also be sent to Somalia if Traitor Ranil becomes president.
Traitor Ranil is now fighting with his own, family owned newspaper group....pretty soon this Traitor will be thrown out of his own home by his mother. Traitor Ranil's own brother Shan Wickramasinghe is already supporting Mahinda....
Actually not just Mahinda's Brother's but Traitor Ranil's brother's are also supporting Mahinda....Very soon Traitor Ranil's mother will also support Mahinda.
Remember what happened to Richard De Soyza during Traitor Ranil's UNP era!....
Remeber how Traitor Ranil as PM, evicted Paul Harris from Sri Lanka for exposing the true Nature of the LTTE during the UNF govt of 2001 and Traitor Ranil's Traitorous CFA!!

Seems to be true as DM confirms Ranil's outburst as follows:
DM Editor should not play games with me :Ranil
UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe addressing a media briefing a short while ago said Daily Mirror Deputy Editor Kesara Abeywardena had called him a weak leader in his column. The UNP leader said he knew the motives behind such articles and added Daily Mirror Editor should not play games with me .

As per the media, the government is worse. Hence the media has the responsibility to address the issue through the worse offender. |

In other words, you are thanking the LTTE that he is not the President |
