As the country celebrated the capture of the last major LTTE bastion on the western flank of the Vanni battlefield on Saturday, frontline troops wounded in skirmishes with the LTTE had to be transferred to the National Hospital and Kandy Teaching Hospital for want of medical specialists at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa had intervened after this was brought to his attention.

An angry president directed Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva to rush medical specialists, after the army complained about the absence of prompt medical attention for want of medical specialists.

Well informed sources said that the minister in turn had contacted the Director General of Health Services, Dr. Ajith Mendis and repeated the president s directive.

Sources said that a surgeon attached to the National Hospital Accident Ward had to be rushed overland to Anuradhapura.

The Health Ministry has ordered an inquiry to ascertain whether the surgeons had neglected their duty.

Sources said that the wounded soldiers had been moved overland to the National Hospital and Kandy Teaching Hospital.

Ajith Mendis must have contacted some other and this 'contacting' would have gone down the line. Wonder if the specialists are at A'pura.

This is a typical, 'Kolla ballata kiyanawa, balla balu nakutata kiyanawa'!

Get the Specialist in to custody along with the director, who ever who opposes, get them too, and send a letter to theier universities asking to remove their names or black list thier names so they cannot move out of the country. these Greedy doctors got the free education and now showing thier back to the nation.

Mahadev,

Agree, but when we try to climb to the Sky, we at least will end up in a tree top. As civilians in SL, if we fight for the five star, three course mean, at least a 'Pan vati' will be in our plates.

But promoting their names in the Medical council as non ethical practioners might be a practical solution. Don't ya think .. ?

I doubt.
Already, medical service is ammounced as essential service. Still Doctors sna nurses jump to the street and strike when any regulation brought by the government or any protest come from Public.
There are many sexual harrassment complaints against some doctors. Still they survice. How???
I know one person practiced as doctor for many years without proper registration with Medical Council!

Mahadev,

When you are trying to go away from SL, the other Medical council inquire about your practice hear, that is where they should squeeze them. If you can't practice according to the ethics, you canot fly, that is the message that it should go out. Since indivduals are effected, later the mass strikes may not happen.

If the A'Pura hospital did not have a surgeon then something seriously wrong with the Health Ministry. Minister Silva aka Sawkyapala should be taken to task. Who knows the President may have used all his stock of extensive kunuharappu on the Minister. We all know how thick skinned the Minister is.
