Police yesterday arrested a couple, whose identity was not disclosed and seized 150 walkie-talkies from their possession following a raid on a house close to Colombo.
The couple was being questioned at length as they had made contradictory statements, police said. They were living in a house owned by a Sri Lankan domiciled abroad and claimed that the owner had sent the walkie-talkies to them, police said.
The raid was conducted by a special team deployed by the Police Headquarters on a tip off.
Police withheld the identity of the couple and the location of the house, but said the walkie-talkies could have been imported for the LTTE or for some other Tamil political group.
Another person was also to be arrested in this connection.
