R. Premaratne (32), a suspect in a double murder case, who was admitted to the Ragama Hospital escaped from two prison guards on Tuesday night. He had been escorted to the toilet, which he entered and locked the door. That was the last seen of him.
When he told the guards that he wanted to go to the toilet his hand cuffs attached to the hospital bed were removed and he was accompanied to the toilet.
When the suspect failed to come out after a considerable period, the prison guards had knocked on the toilet door and later broke, it open only to find he had smashed the toilet window and escaped.
Commissioner General of Prisons Major General Vajira Wijegunwardena interdicted the two guards and launched an inquiry. Police have been alerted to apprehend the suspect.
