SLFP to celebrate 56th anniversary on `patriotic note`

The SLFP scheduled to celebrate its 56th anniversary on a patriotic note over two days with a photographic exhibition depicting the progress of the party since 1956, will be inaugurated by General Secretary of the Party Minister Maithripala Sirisena at the main hall of the BMICH at 10 a.m. today, according to Administrative Secretary of the Party, S. H. Ariyasena last night.
The exhibition will highlight the forming of the Pancha Maha Balavegaya by founding leaders of the SLFP late SWRD Bandaranaike and D. A Rajapaksa and progress made by late Prime Minister Mrs. Sirimavo R. D. Bandaranaike and President Chandrika Kumaratunga Bandaranaike to President Mahinda Rajapaksa today, and will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on September 1st and 2nd.
Over 2700 party organizers, activists, elected members and office bearers will participate in the main celebrations at the BMICH conference hall on September 2nd commencing at 9 a.m. with the leaders and representatives of the constitutional parties of the UPFA Government being invited to be present.
The highlight of the celebrations would be the keynote address by veteran politician and pundit J. R. P Suriyapperuma, followed by the inaugural copy of the party organ `Dinakara` republished with a new face lift by Chief Government Whip and Party Treasurer, Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle being presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa as party leader who will launch the party website, said veteran SLFP Trade Unionist and Vice President of the party, Governor Alavi Mowlana last night.
The celebrations would come to an end with the party leader, general secretary and treasurer addressing the party rank and file on their responsibilities and the path need to be taken for the country and party to progress.
