SLFP MP Arjuna Ranatunga said yesterday he had resigned from his post as the party organizer for the Kotte electorate in the Colombo district.
The former Sri Lankan skipper Arjuna Ranatunga who captained the 1996 world cup winning cricket team tendered his resignation on Friday to President Mahinda.
Mr. Ranatunga told the Daily Mirror yesterday that his decision was based on problems he had with Kotte Mayor Swarnalatha de Silva in executing his duties in the area.
`I took up the issue with the President and party`s General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena. But, there was no response. So, I decided to resign,` he said.
Asked whether he would opt for a different political option at this time, Mr. Ranatunga said he resigned only from the organizer post.
