All parties supporting the government and the JVP voted in favour of the emergency extension. Expressing views while moving the resolution in the House, Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake said the government will not hesitate to take all measures to rout the LTTE from the North. The Prime Minister said the troops have discharged a heroic task liberating the East from the terrorists. The entire nation should salute the armed forces, the police and the STF. It should be reported that all strategies were adopted to weaken the LTTE terrorists. Road barriers have been set up in Trincomalee and its environs and also in Batticaloa and Ampara and manned 24 hours of the day for the security of the people. The Prime Minister said troops are still continuing operations to end in-humanitarian activities of the terrorists from the East. The Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim civilians say they now live in freedom, devoid of terrorism. Innocent Tamils appeal for development of infrastructure. Premier Wickramanayake added that as a responsible government, their reasonable demands should be met.
