`Casablanca` on Sri Lankan conflict

An Indian filmmaker is remaking `Casablanca`, swapping the Rick`s Cafe of the Oscar-winning classic for a restaurant in south India, and the World War Two backdrop for the ethnic conflict in Sri Lanka.
In the 1942 film, Humphrey Bogart played a club owner who romances a married Ingrid Bergman and helps her escape the Nazis with her husband, a resistance leader.
`My film will be a tribute to the original,` said Rajeev Nath, the director who plans to premiere his Malayalam language remake, `Ezham Mudra` (The Seventh Seal), in the coastal Moroccan city where the original was set.
`As a student of films, I had watched this great classic 20 times.`
Nath`s protagonist is an Indian diplomat-turned restaurateur who helps his lover and her husband, both Tamil separatist rebels fighting the Sri Lankan government, escape from India.
In the adaptation, the hero and his lover meet in a beachside restaurant.
Nath says his film will swap the World War Two background of the original for the separatist movement in Sri Lanka -- where Tamils have been fighting for a separate ethnic homeland in the north and east of the island -- but does not indulge in any politics.
`It is neither against nor in support of their cause,` said the 55-year-old director, who met some Tamil Tiger rebels during a trip to Norway.
The war strikes a strong chord across the Palk Strait in southern India where more than 60 million Indian Tamils live. India has had a complex political and military link to the conflict and Tamil rebels have also taken refuge here.
Nath begins shooting next month and some parts are to be filmed in Sri Lanka. The film is slated for a 2008 release.
`Ezham Mudra`, which is Nath`s 12th project as director, features Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi and Bollywood actress Mandira Bedi in the roles famously essayed by Bogart and Bergman.
Nath, who won India`s prestigious national award for direction in 1999 for his Malayalam film `Janani` (Mother), said remaking `Casablanca` was a dream come true.
`Casablanca` ranked third after `Citizen Kane` and `The Godfather` on a list of 100 best American films in a poll conducted by the American Film Institute in 2007.

TheColonel shows there is no bottom end to the depth a being in human skin can descend. These are the sort of colonels who go to areas where they let their beastly behaviour let loose and claim they are there to 'liberate' or rather terrorise the civilians.
This is about film making to seek fame and make money but some people cannot write anything without wearing their coloured glasses. |

it will be rejected from the world then as the dream eelam. Those supportes think they can get the international attention on their massacre and the abductions. but they do not know the LTTE is prohibited as an invalid coin.

Rajeev Nath says there won't be a Tamil acress as heroine in it.
Nath told Reuters the Malayalam-language film was not political and would not side with any faction in the ongoing conflict.
Ezham Mudra, which casts Bollywood actress Mandira Bedi in the Bergman role, is scheduled for a 2008 release.

The Fried Chicken,
....we can infer that Tamil men must be rather so pitifully...
This man has virtually no idea about the movie 'Casablanca'.
Here is the parallel,
World War II = Eleam war
Nazi = Sri Lanka government, forces
Morocco = India
Casablanca = Chennai (or any city in South India)
Victor Laszlo (Czech resistance leader) = Tamil resistance leader or renowned supporter.
Ilsa Lund (Victor's wife) = Wife of Tamil leader/supporter.
Humphrey Bogart (ex-lover of Victor's wife) = Ex-lover of Tamil leader's wife.
Humphrey Bogart and Ilsa met in Paris. Let say our Tamil 'Humphrey Bogart' and Tamil 'Ilsa Lund' met in Colombo.
Vichy France Captain Louis Renault in Morocco = Indian Central Intelligence personnel.
Nazi in Morocco = Sinhala Intelligence officials in Tamil Nadu.
So, while Mr. Fried Chicken talking about 'penis size of Tamil man', he forgot to see the Nazis connection with SLA/GoSL.

In the original 'Casablanca', Ilsa Lund thought her husband (Victor Laszlo) had been killed in the Nazi concentration camp. So, young Ilsa met Humphrey Bogart and fell in love with him. When she discovered her husband had escaped from the camp, she disappeared from Paris to meet her husband.
...LTTE fellow couldn't't keep his wife in his own bed.
This low level sentence of yours is nothing to do with the real story. The girl thought her husband had been killed in the camp, so she naturally started to move on with her life.
You are a pathetic low life, firstly you should get to know the story of classic movie and then we can talk about.
Moron! |
