A three-member teenaged gang believed to be responsible for a series of robberies, amounting to millions of rupees, in cash and gold, was arrested on Monday evening by the Anuradhapura Police
At the time of arrest the gang was in possession of gold jewellery worth Rs 850,000 and a foreign-manufactured hand grenade.
Two bicycles were also taken into custody
Police said all suspects were under 18 years of age and residents of Anuradhapura town. Police are looking for two more suspects in connection with these incidents and one of them is a woman.
Police said the gang was arrested on a tip off and was due to be produced before a Magistrate yesterday.
SP Macarthy Perera, HQI Sarath Prema, IP Weeraratne and a team of officers are investigating.
