President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday surprised the people of Beliatta when his helicopter landed at Kadaheella Maha Vidyalaya. The President was on his way to Walasgala to attend the funeral of the Ven. Kapugama Ariyajothi thera. There was panic among the people of Beliatta when the chopper touched down in the school compound as it was the first time in history that such a helicopter had landed on the school grounds. However, when the President stepped out of the chopper the people gathered their wits and rushed up to greet their leader Rajapaksa who has held the Beliatta seat since 1970.
The President spent some time chatting to the students of the school and the people before leaving for Sri Jayawardana Mudalindaramaya in Walasgala to pay his last respects to the Ven. Ariyajothi thera.
