Eleven people, abducted by the LTTE and held in Thoppigala, surrendered to the Kinniyadi Army Camp yesterday.
They said the LTTE was concentrating on escape routes when the Army surrounded Thoppigala and this paved the way for them to escape. The LTTE had killed about 100 prisoners, they said.
Describing their daily routine, the prisoners said they were made to toil from early in the morning until dusk without proper food or rest.
The prisoners were all from nearby villages and abducted by the LTTE when they went into the jungles to collect firewood.
The LTTE used them to lay anti personnel mines, construct bunkers and for various other tasks.
They will be handed over to the Police, the Army said.
