JVP propaganda secretary and Parliamentary group leader Wimal Weerawansa, while lauding the capture of Thoppigala as a glorious of the armed forces and one that belonged to the people, questioned why the Government had permitted the Norwegian Ambassador to visit Kilinochchi at that time.
He said it was the duty of the Government to tell the people why it allowed the Ambassador to visit the North.
Speaking at a media conference, organized by the `Manel Mal` Movement, to celebrate the capture of Thoppigala by the security forces, he said `if the government revives the peace talks, thereby diluting the effect of the victory by the armed forces, we wish to warn the Government that it will be its end.`
He said every time the security forces gained important military advantages there were peace talks and this helped the LTTE to regroup and re-arm to stage further attacks on the forces and this should not be allowed to happen.
`As members of the Manel Mal Movement, we can claim a share of the honour and appreciation due for this victory. For the last 1 1/2 years, we spearheaded a campaign to motivate the forces and helped them and their families financially as well,` Dr. Gunadasa Amaradasa said.
`The victory at Thoppigala signifies three principal features namely the East has been cleared and Prabakaran`s dream of Eelam has been destroyed. Secondly it has been proved that the LTTE can be defeated military and thirdly that the initiation of the war commenced with the de-merger of the north east,` he said.
The NE problem is a terrorist problem and has to be finished through military action. There was no need to resort to discussions. Political parties and individuals who do not appreciate this victory are enemies of this country and friends of terrorists, he added.
