There is a dire need to educate the public on cost effective and quality construction methods as cost of construction material has increased by 30 per cent in a short period.
`Costs of all the construction material have gone up immensely and it is a huge problem faced by the construction industry.
In order to complete projects with the required quality, public should have a thorough knowledge of cost effective construction methods,` said Ovista Residencies (Pvt) Ltd Chief Architect D.P.K. Mataraarachchi.
It was noted that mostly, resources and material go waste due to lack of technical knowledge of public on building construction and finally they find it difficult to complete the building in the scheduled time with expected quality.
Mataraarachchi speaking to `The Island Financial Review` said that effective construction process did not mean only land management and setting up a building but it was also important to consider the long term aspects such as durability, electricity management, ventilation and proper water supplement.
`Earth surface, climate, lifestyle of public and social issues are also should be considered when constructing building, be it a house, hotel or a commercial building. Unplanned construction methods have loaded the country with numerous problems such as floods,` he said. He added that people go for cheap imported construction material and later face difficulties.
Ovista has organised an exhibition to educate public on modest cost effective construction methods and they had displayed the models of luxury and super luxury houses, leisure homes, holiday bungalows, hotels and commercial buildings to public to view.
`We follow the internationally recognised standards in achieving and maintaining the highest quality in fulfilling client requirements,` said Mataraarachchi.
