Mysterious noise causes panic in several areas
Monday, 11 June 2007 - 7:51 AM SL Time

A mysterious noise similar to an explosion heard in several areas in the Gamapaha and Kurunagala districts caused panic among many people in the these areas last night.

Police and the military confirmed there had been a loud sound of an explosion and a simultaneous glow in the sky but the cause of the noise was not known at the time this edition went to press.

Police said the noise had been heard in Gampaha, Bingririya, Pannala and Kuliyapitiya police divisions and they had sent out teams to investigate. The army last night ruled out the possibility of the noise being a sonic boom from a jet aircraft. The Media Centre for National Security said the police were checking on the noise.

Meanwhile there were also reports that the noise and the light could be from a falling meteorite of some magnitude. When contacted the Met department said it was a possibility.

It's a meteorite. I saw it's falling around 9.00-9.15 in my own eyes.

i second that after having witnessed a falling meteor myself one night while taking a walk. to my astonishment it made an audible 'thud' as its light extinguished in what looked like a flare shot up into the air.

..or maybe it was aliens. god only knows what they'd be doing in sri lanka, but let's not be too hasty.

Over here in Sri Lanka, we are living in dead fear, it is no surprise that any kind of Mysterious noise will cause panic. Last night, most of us could not sleep.

Mage deyanee, when will we live in peace without any such fears?

Do you honestly see that happening? Wishful thinking! Best of Luck!

However from the day you leave Sri Lanka for a country devoid of violence compared to Sri Lanka, peace of mind is assured. That is a factual reality and not at all optimism.
