Nagulan among tigers killed in Eravur

By Sunil Jayasiri
A top LTTE leader, who led the Tigers elite force – Charles Anthony Unit in the East, was among the dead during the fighting between military and the Tigers few days ago in Eravur; while in latest clashes in Vavuniya at least twelve Tigers were killed, the military said.

Military sources said that a major fight erupted early this week in Kaluwankerni, after the military found a group of LTTE men hiding in a house. Later the military found at least six bodies of Tigers including the leader ‘Nagulan’, who had been called to the area to carry out attacks against Karuna cadre and the military.

It reported that LTTE Leader Prabhakaran had sent a group of cadres of the Charles Anthony Brigade with Nagulan to the East a few weeks ago.

Meanwhile, at least twelve LTTE cadres were killed in two separate incidents during the last 36 hours in clashes North West of Omanthai, ahead of the Vavuniya – Mannar Forward defence lines.

Initially ten LTTE cadres were killed in an assault launched by the Army and subsequently two more Tiger cadres were killed in a separate incident.

In another development, intercepted LTTE communication revealed that the LTTE had admitted the death of 18 Sea Tigers in Thursday’s pre dawn sea battle to breach the Delft Island defences.

Tiger communication also revealed the names of seven Sea Tigers killed in the confrontation including senior leaders.

Navy said that Sea Tiger attempts to breach naval defences of the Delft Island was successfully repulsed. The Navy with the help of the Air Force destroyed four LTTE boats and disabled another two, it said.

LTTE suffers heavy loses in sporadic clashes; over 40 LTTE cadres killed

The LTTE terrorists continue to suffer heavy loses as the security forces at Northern, Eastern and Wanni fronts are further consolidating their defences using novel anti-terror tactics. According to the latest information received by the radio monitoring elements of the security forces at least 40 LTTE cadres, including 7 very senior cadres were killed during last 72 hours.

In Batticaloa the troops clearing ahead in the eastern province gunned down a group of seven LTTE cadres who had attempted to move across the Eravur area on Wednesday evening (23). It is reliably understood that the group of terrorists had moved into the area to disrupt the resettlement of displaced people which is now being successfully undertaken by the government. It is further known that group was also entrusted with the task to provide assistance to the troubled LTTE leader 'Jeyam' who is presently entrapped in the Thoppigala terror base.

Following the attack, the troops conducted a swift cordon and search and found one General purpose machine gun, six T 56 assault rifles, one micro pistol, six claymore mines each weighing 15 kgs and a stock of ammunition. Troops also recovered several dresses worn by Muslims. Speculation is that the infiltrators planned to move dressed as Muslims.

According to the latest information the self styled 'Colonel' Nagulan, the person in charge of LTTE's Charles Anthony band; 'Major' Maniwannan Master, the LTTE's intelligence coordinator for Batticaloa and; LTTE female cadre Mala, a senior member of LTTE's Sothiya band were also among the dead LTTE cadres. Two photographs taken of themselves with terror chief V. Prbakaran were also found with two dead LTTE cadres. The bodies were later handed over to the ICRC.

Meanwhile, the army troops spear heading to the Thoppigala area skirmished with LTTE terrorists on Thursday (24) morning. Radio communication among the LTTE cadres revealed that two of its cadres were killed during the confrontation.

Separately, in the North, the naval troops foiled an amphibian terror attack at the Delft Island on Thursday (24th) morning. LTTE has reportedly deployed 18 craft including six suicide boats in the operation. The naval retaliation has destroyed 2 LTTE boats and inflicted damages to 2 others. The Air Force has also claimed destroying two more boats as the fighter jets bombed at withdrawing LTTE boats.

Eighteen LTTE cadres including seven senior cadres were believed to have killed in the confrontation. According to the radio monitoring by the Electronic warfare units, LTTE's Sinnathurai Vijeykala ('Major' Thamil Vendhani), Weerasinham Iyankaran ('Captain' Muhilan), Panja Chalan Suhandan ('Lieutenant' Sudheshan) , Sebasthiyan Pillai Mary Kanista ('Lieutenant' Thanivili), Kadirapillai Mariyakoraei ('Captain' Thalaithendul) ,Chandrasekaran Mayuran (Sirimaran) , Fransis Unis Kumar (Kadal Mahindan) and Anton Sujandan (Kadal Chelvan) were among the dead LTTE cadres.

Meanwhile, naval officials rejected the LTTE's claim that 35 naval personnel were killed during the battle as weird exaggeration. According to the naval sources only four naval personnel were killed and four others were injured.

Separately, army troops manning Northern FDL at Nagarkovil shot down an LTTE cadre who attempted to infiltrate in to the own FDL on Wednesday (23) morning.

On the Wanni front, the army troops clearing a head the forward defence line (FDL) in west of Omanthai killed 12 LTTE cadres in two separate incidents during last 36 hours. A successful ambush laid ahead of the FDL killed the first 10 LTTE cadres and the other two were killed while trying to infiltrate in to the Security forces FDL.

PS
nagulan did not come to disrupt civilian settlements...he was there to kill pillliyan and some other commanders of the karuna faction in a top secret vanni special ops style attack and to then frame karuna...

forces first goal was to capture nagulan alive...unfortunatly it was not to be...a last minute delay from a channel in getting the necessary equipment meant for that kind of operation compromised capturing him alive...

also folks the attcks in the south are a desperate attemp to force the govt to stop the vanni offensive and the ranger attacks in deep vanni areas in back door communication vanni ltte has approached the govt for a cease fire which the govt has rejected...

also the karuna faction's deep penetration units have entered ltte controlled areas SF learns...

with some of the cadres being suicide members trained in ranger ops by ' specialized groups' ltte is sure to have a time...

Further what is your view on the Delft Navy Camp attack...why are you silent on this?

SF aiya,
Good to have you back. How's work? Looks like you are so busy with your work. When will you go back to Sri Lanka bro? I'm planning to go this July.
Do you have some info about the Delft attack? What are our losses? And what are their losses?
Again on a news I read that Sarath Munasinghe had told about a possible LTTE attack on Jaffna. Also I read about a new tactic of LTTE to wear suicide jackets and do their top secret work in Jaffna. What are their chances if they go for a large scale offensive? I think keeping them busy in Mannar and Thoppigala till we get new birds will be an advantage for us. What do you have to say about this possible threat?

Also LTTE sea tigers seem to be very quiet (except their attack on Delft), looks like this is a calmness before a storm.
So brother it's good to hear that our rangers and DPU units are back in action. I thought it's the end of that unit after that Udugampola traitor's betrayal.

Good to read your battle updates bro, I believe in them more than I believe defence.lk (no need to say about Tamilnet, right? )

Take care brother.

United i have replied to swathi on the delft attack...also ltte is attempting something in jaffna with increased infiltrations and new tactics...

the belt issue is also true and its a new tactic...ltte would not stand a chance in a jaffna take over they tried thrice and we all know how it ended...we are ready for that...

however their new tactics are pretty smart i should say...

good to see you too mate...ill head back to sri lanka for good, hopefully early next year...

see you around...

also what are you studying and in which country...?
