The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has busted a racket where stolen vehicles are sold to the LTTE by an organised gang using forged documents.
`We arrested seven suspects and recovered three vehicles`, a CID official said.
At least ten vehicles had been stolen by this gang in Nuwara Eliya and Colombo suburbs to be sold to the LTTE by changing the chassis number and forging documents for the forward transfer in Vavuniya, he said.
Three more suspects are still evading arrest, he said.
A Dolphin vehicle robbed at Negombo is believed to have been handed over to the LTTE, he said. `There is still no trace of it`.
Some of those arrested have been remanded while the others are being held under detention orders, the CID official said.
Further investigations are being directed by DIG (CID) W. Prathapasinghe.
