SB`s eldest son does well at Monash

How do ordinary working class people suddenly find all this money to send their children to universities abroad, when they take up politics? Surely they cant do it on even the president`s salary even after taking into account all the perks. Great mystery isn`t it? Fernadopulle who was in slippers and riding a push bicycle when the Banda`s gave him an opportunity now has a house in colombo 7. lets have 20 million ministers thats one sure way for all lankans to do well.

This is amazing !, what is the big deal ? how many other SL boys/girls achieve such things, of course in this case they are the kids of a corrupt SL politician. SL is one of the poorest countries on the planet and how a politician of such a country sponsors two kids to study overseas ?. In fact, they can not be that bright because they could not get into a SL university.

I have been living in Australia for 22 years as a professional. We can not afford (or even think of) to send my kids to university here as private students.

Have a look at the photos in the website of 2 SL soldiers killed by LTTE. These soldiers (highly likely) are fighting to earn few rupees to feed their kids in a village.

SB with this corrupt money, you should be burned in the hell, enjoy it because you were not perished in the prison

[In fact, they can not be that bright because they could not get into a SL university.]

You say that your a professional: I am not going to dispute that, but the above state is pure ignorance of the ground situation. Long time ago SL kids might have taken pride in going to a local university but now if they know that parents can afford, foreign universities are the first preference.

[We can not afford (or even think of) to send my kids to university here as private students.]

There is more than one reason: for one the tax system is bad the more you make the more they grab from you. But we chose to live where ever we live. For sure we knew what we were getting into so why complain.

Why is that Sri Lankans have to always put down others.

this guy Jarawakanawa has in fact sincerely spoken the truth. it seems that you are the one who is spouting pure ignorance. writing prejudice as fact.

[Long time ago SL kids might have taken pride in going to a local university but now if they know that parents can afford, foreign universities are the first preference. ]

have you got any proof to back this claim? the ground situation is it has got even more difficult for students to get into especially choice streams like medicine, engineering etc in sl. the children with means circumvent the whole selection process and the uncertainty by sitting for london als or some other foreign exams where modest success would buy them admission to a university. 95% of these students would not gain admission to medicine or engineering in sl. so the `preference` is by necessity not by choice. also what about universities in nepal, pakistan, russia, china where students go? are they by `preference` as well?

[We can not afford (or even think of) to send my kids to university here as private students.]

[There is more than one reason: for one the tax system is bad the more you make the more they grab from you. But we chose to live where ever we live. For sure we knew what we were getting into so why complain.]

Again you display your ignorance. many western countries have well laid out plans to attract foreign students from developing countries, where the primary intention is income not good education. many universites are partly funded by income earned from foreign students. So if one can afford the very high fees relative to what the locals have to pay he/she can gain entry with very much lower admission criteria than the locals. in fact about 25% of places are reserved for these type of fee paying students.

get real. this guy has lived 22 years in australia, how is he to know what changes will happen in the future when he first went there? how is he to know what he was getting into? He is just stating a true fact.

[Why is that Sri Lankans have to always put down others.]

no one ever puts down legitimate achievements, in fact if you care to read many have commended achievements of ordinary lankans. dont blame others for your blinkered view. on the other hand a crook is a crook anyway you want to look at it. people have a right to complain about them, especially when other upright lankans are undergoing such hardships.

[have you got any proof to back this claim?]

Yes I do, but I am not going to give you personal information.

[Again you display your ignorance. many western countries have well laid out plans to attract foreign students from developing countries, where the primary intention is income not good education. ]

First read and understand before you can criticize someone. He is not talking about foreign students although you are right there are many programs for foreign students. He is talking about his kids where ever he lives. It is the parents responsibility to put aside even a little money for children`s education, even without that you have student loan available, outright grants and other ways of applying through local or federal govt. So not been able to send the kids where they want even with the necessary grades is questionable.

[get real. this guy has lived 22 years in australia, how is he to know what changes will happen in the future when he first went there? how is he to know what he was getting into? He is just stating a true fact.]

Unless your going to a country as a refugee you do your ground work and know about the country before you apply. University education in the developed world has never been free, true the cost has gone up, so has ever thing else including the earning potential.

[no one ever puts down legitimate achievements.]

How can a kid who came second in class not be a legitimate achievement? Are you jealous or just stupid.

the retort to that is what about all those students who became not second, but first in sl universities in really hard fields? why isnt a big issue made of them? Are you jealous and stupid?

take your blinkers off buddy. face the facts. the facts are his sons would have never gained entry through legitimate means to a sl university. so SBs ill obtained wealth buys them places in a foreign university which many other hard working upright lankans (or locals who cant pay the high foreign student fees) cant afford. they run with lame horses in some god forsaken fields and become second (so their publicist says!) and you expect all of us to go ra ra ra. it`s a free world, cheer to your heart`s content if you want, but just because you are shallow of mind gives you no right to expect others to be so.

See this shows that the Sinhalese don`t discriminate. They are just jealous at everyone even their own. By the way Jealousy is a form of stupidity.

My two cents on this debate:

[[Long time ago SL kids might have taken pride in going to a local university but now if they know that parents can afford, foreign universities are the first preference.]]

I was very excited about studying in Australia, but now I really miss Lanka. The quality of life is better here, but the food is atrocious, and the cost of living is at least 10 times more than in Lanka. Most Aussies are also too fond of alcohol, which I find disgusting. Given the state of our universities, I had to go down under. Lankan unis also don`t accept London O Levels & A Levels. Furthermore, living overseas broadens your horizons. I hope I can go back to Lanka after I get my degree and a few years` work experience.

It is that we left SL a long time ago because of politicians like SB due to corruption, killings, interference etc. Now they have send their kids to these countries, and expect us to salute them. Get real.

SB`s sons harraseed people at night clubs in SL and they even used his father`s bodygaurds to harrass innocent youth. What do you expect us to do, worship them here.

They should have been kicked on their rear ends in SL as police do to poor guys stealing a coconut or stealing a buch of banana !

Watch mate: all tution money has bolld in them...SB
