President Mahinda Rajapaksa met sacked minister Mangala Samaraweera at Temple Trees on Tuesday evening and held talks for three hours, Government sources told the Daily Mirror yesterday.
The discussion which began at 7.30 p.m had gone on till 10.45 p.m.
It was learnt that during the meeting the President had discussed with Mr. Samaraweera at length the recently submitted power devolution proposals presented at the SLFP central Committee and his visit to the Vatican.
The meeting was attended by Presidential Secretary Lalith Weeratunge and Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana.
Sources also said the imprisonment of former deputy minister Sripathy Suriyaarachchi was also discussed over dinner.
President Rajapaksa had told Mr. Samaraweera any issue he was having against the Government or him could be solved through negotiations.
In reply Mr. Samaraweera has said that he submitted a 10-point letter to the President to take the Government on the right path and that he did not have anything personal against the President.
He also thanked the President for inquiring regarding his mother`s health when she fell ill recently.
It is believed that President Rajapaksa is most likely to reinstate the former minister in the next couple of weeks.
