Pettah Central Bus Stand chief in bribery net

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption on Saturday arrested a senior Transport Ministry official on a charge of bribery.

Bribery Commission investigating team trapped the suspect Chandraratne Darmawardene of Maharagama, the chief manager at the Pettah Central Bus Stand, as he accepted Rs. 40,000 from a person who owned several shops in the Central Bus Stand premises.

Senior investigators said that the suspect had demanded that the shop owner pay him Rs 40,000 on a monthly basis or face the consequences. The Colombo Chief Magistrate on Saturday remanded the suspect till April 10 pending investigations.

The Island learns that the suspect had been on the personal staff of Minister A.H.M.Fowzie representing the Colombo District. The suspect is believed to have secured the appointment at the Central Bus Stand with the Minister`s blessings.

NOw Mr. Fouzie, dont poke your fingers in to this case and ask the BC to throw this case or dont threat the shop owener to make another confession to say that the incident wasnt' true and it was something else.

Let the curruption be punished no matter who is involved.

Charge this currupted Bus Stand chief, send him to jail for years and give a lession to others.

Fowzie is furious, he has taken this personal.

Now some thugs from Jumpata Street on the case to sort the matter with the shopowner.
