Following the LTTE attack on the Katunayake Air Force Base, UNP and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday (26) wrote to Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake requesting him to ask the Speaker to summon Parliament immediately, to discuss the current security situation in the country.
Wickremesinghe said the LTTE`s un-admitted or unknown air capacity now poses a serious threat to civilians all over the country.
`As you are aware the security situation in the country has taken a turn for the worse with the aerial bombing of Katunayake Air Base reportedly killing three Air Force Officers and wounding sixteen. `While deaths and injuries is a serious matter, the real cause for concern at the moment is the hitherto unknown or un-admitted air capacity of the LTTE which has now become a fact.
`As you should realize this now poses a serious threat to civilians all over the country. In these circumstances please request the Speaker to summon Parliament immediately to discuss the current situation,` Wickremesinghe said.
