The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) has upgraded its medical testing services to allow residents in the city to avail themselves of 25 types of medical tests free of charge, the Chief Medical Officer said.
Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam said previously it was possible to do only four tests but the new equipment available to them made it possible to do at least 25 types of tests. These would include liquid profile and other advanced tests. He explained that an advanced blood test in a private medical centre would costs Rs 2000 while the CMC would do it free of charge. `We are doing a public service,` he said Initially the service would be available at the Kompanni Veediya Maternity Centre but later it would be introduced to other centres gradually depending on the availability of funds.
Dr. Kariyawasam said the Kirula Medical Centre was also being upgraded and therefore the expanded service would be available there as well in the near future.
