The recent statements by US Ambassador Robert O` Blake came under fire in Parliament yesterday.
JHU Parliamentary Group Leader Ven Athureliye Ratana Thera during the emergency debate in the House yesterday condemned the US Ambassador`s statements that the LTTE wouldn`t have launched the attack on the helicopter in Batticaloa if it knew he (Mr. Blake) was among the diplomats and that US expects a devolution package from the government that goes beyond regional councils which former President Chandrika Kumaratunga offered in the year 2000, and said the Ambassador had no right to make such statements.
The Ven Thera said foreign diplomats did not have any right to decide on a political solution for the national issue as that right was vested with the people. `We should not give in to pressure mounted by any foreign country as this is our motherland,` he said.
Ven Ratana Thera accused those who assaulted the monks at a peace rally in Viharamahadevi Park organised by the Anti War Front had allegedly undergone LTTE training. He said videos were available to prove this.
