JVP fears Sri Lanka will turn into another Kosovo
Thursday, 1 March 2007 - 5:02 AM SL Time

JVP Parliamentary Group leader Wimal Weerawansa yesterday said there was a danger of the international community creating a situation for direct intervention in the internal affairs as in the case of UN intervention in Kosovo or Southern Sudan

Addressing a press conference on behalf of the Patriotic National Movement (PNM), at the National Library auditorium, he faulted the international community for repeating their usual mantaram after Tuesday`s mortar attack on a group Colombo based diplomats. He criticized the international community for reiterating their call for a negotiated settlement without deploring the LTTE attack in the strongest of terms.

The LTTE wanted the international community to keep it informed of planned visits to the northern and eastern provinces, he said.

Tuesday`s attack, he claimed was part of their strategy to influence the international community.

The LTTE has clearly proved in its statement, released to coincide with the 5th anniversary of the CFA, that the Oslo-arranged agreement recognized a de-facto state in the North and East.

Weerawansa reiterated the JVP`s call to abrogate the CFA officially even at this late stage and called upon the Government to express its stand on the LTTE statement that they had got international recognition through the CFA being in force over the past five years and as to what strong action they propose to take in this regard, as the people of this country have a right to know where their Government stands, he said.

Weerawansa said the Norwegians too should express their view on this matter as what the Patriotic National Movement said before the signing of the CFA has come true.

Dr. Gunadasa Amerasekera also addressed the Media. The Ven Dambila Amila Thero and Cyril Wickremage also participated.

Weeramaonkey may have a point here.

Since no viable solution is forthcoming from Mahinda's government and war is likely to escalate the international community may step in.

The absence of any overt condemnation of the LTTE for the Batti attack yesterday from the western powers is a clear indication that the GOSL's tactics are not in favour by the western powers.

If that happens, JVP is responsible, because, they created this situation.

Sri Lankans will start cursing JVP and not anyone else.

You people get beaten on the road.

JVP is responsible for things happened during CBK time.
They were supporting here to be in power when SLA lost many strategic camps in North.
JVP obstruct RW and finally kicked out by CBK.
Same will repeat from MR Very smartly.

JVP Has no clear political agenda just 'anun gasan kathwa'

Mr. Weerawansa is failing to recognize the 'Management' approach taken by the IC. In management one recognizes Truth commonly known to all sides rather than rights and wrongs expressly stated. The IC includes more Tamils than Sinhalese and hence the intuitive wisdom.

GOSL received handouts from International Governments. Hence it is not in a position to reject their interference to the extent LTTE is able to.

JVP has been part of that receiving handouts process. Hence it is fearing its own weaknesses.

CFA is a document signed between two governments with the approval of IC. This MR govt cannot withdraw from it without risking loosing trust by IC, including UN. So, in any future settlement CFA will be the base.... thats why LTTE do not care much about East now. Even if GOSL claim land, eventually, IC will come back to claim it for Republic of Eelam!
