An LTTE suspect detained by the Criminal Investigation Department allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself inside CID premises yesterday morning.
The victim, a Sinhalese was found hanging inside a bathroom in the CID premises in Fort around 10.00 a.m. yesterday.
According to the CID the suspect had been taken into custody by the army at a checkpoint in Nawaladi area last November. The army had subsequently handed over the suspect to Valachchenai police and he was later transferred to the CID for further investigations.
According to the CID the suspect, a resident of Aranayake area had joined the LTTE and received weapons training in Vakarai. He was detained for almost three months on suspicion of having exclusive information on the distribution of weapons among parties in the south for pre-planned attacks.
A CID official told the Daily Mirror that the suspect had disclosed information on certain parties in the south and was arrested to find more persons involved in the network in other areas including Tissamaharama.
Yesterday morning the victim had requested permission to have a bath. When he was released from his cell he had gone to one of the bathrooms with a bed sheet and later his body was recovered, the official said.
IGP Victor Perera has appointed a special team to conduct an inquiry into the death.
Meanwhile an inquiry was held last evening by Colombo`s Additional Magistrate Ajith Anavaratne.
Referring to the incident Former National Police Commission Chairman Ranjith Abeysuriya told the media that a similar incident rocked the country in 1966 when two suspects detained at the CID `Fourth Floor` for questioning, mysteriously died by falling off the fourth floor.

Most likely the CID killed him and later hung him . It happens all the time. Nothing new.Now they have an even better excuse = just say he was a LTTE suspect and everyone walks free.
or
Shoot someone in the back and say he was shot while trying to escape.
What a great country of ours.Proud to be a Sri Lankan. |

Summary justice Sri Lankan style under the PTA. Guilty or not guilty, if the 'Powers that May Be' do not like someone, this is the typical result! Then the authorities responsible come out with the reasons, such as 'committed suicide', 'tried to forcefully get away' and the most common reason 'police were being lead to a hidden arms cache by the accused when the accused( who would definitely have been hand-cuffed) grabbed a fire-arm of a police officer and began to shoot, so the police shot in self defence'. That's the way it's done in Lanka. Taste of Paradise! Edited By - kiwikanga - 28 Feb 2007 03:05:48 GMT |

This is with reference the response of THAMBI.
All identified terrorists and supporters should eliminate for better future in Srilanka. Terrorists could be Sinhala , Tamil or any other race.
If that suspect had the called LTTE connection, his death is perfect by any method. Terrorists are killers of society. |
