Power and Energy Minister W. D. J. Seneviratne said while the government was dauntlessly trying to defeat Prabhakaran`s barbaric terrorism, some politicians had conspired against the government in order to destabilize it and hinder its actions against terrorism.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Kobeigana Electricity Scheme on February 18, Minister Seneviratne said those who conspire against the government are supporting LTTE terrorism. The Cease Fire Agreement (CFA) was signed during the UNP regime, but the UNF government was unable to implement it and as a consequence of that Prabhakaran`s power had been strengthened and under the CFA the LTTE had intensified its military power. The LTTE, while strengthening its power on the pretext of accepting the CFA, was also able to collect money from various organizations, while killing a number of security personnel, including intelligence officers, but UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe had kept quiet in the face of all these brutal activities of the LTTE, he said.
He said that President Mahinda Rajapakse became the head of State at a time Sri Lanka`s image had been tarnished internationally, but the President had been able to rescue the country from the grip of terrorism.
He said that some politicians with responsible portfolios had accused the government of misleading the international community but President Rajapakse and his government would do everything possible to solve the core issues of Tamil people.
