President Mahinda Rajapakse would be compelled to dissolve Parliament and to go for a snap poll. The UNP is taking all necessary measures to face such scenario, Kurunegala District UNP MP Johnston Fernando said.
`We are sure that the UNP will definitely win the next election. Our campaign would be supported by a large number of disgruntled strongmen of the Alliance government and civil forces,` Fernando told the media at the Opposition Leader`s Office in Colombo on Tuesday.
He said that his party had been involved in regrouping its vote bank and the reforms would be soon be implemented within a well-planned time frame.
Under the current situation, where a crisis prevails within the Government ranks, following the sacking of three powerful ministers of his own Cabinet, the President is left with only a single option. `That is,` he said, `to go for a snap poll.`
MP Fernando said that his party and its rank and file were canvassing country wide to make their party ready to face an early general election at any time and all those who respect democracy would be lined up against the Government.
