Minister of Child Development and Women Empowerment, Sumeda Jayasena got an opportunity to present her petition to the Public Petitions Committee of Parliament yesterday after her last week`s complaint that Parliament, too, harassed women members.
She said that when she wanted to present her petition, the Parliament office had sent a letter to an address at which she had not resided for over one year.
Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara: Steps would be taken to see that Parliament sends letters to the correct addresses hereafter.
Chief Government Whip Jeyaraj Fernandopulle: Last Thursday Minister Sumeda Jayasena came to the House just a minute after the petitions were presented. She explained to us there were two different types of harassment to women. One was physical and the other mental. In this case there was no physical violence.
Sumeda Jayasena: I am not accusing you (Speaker) I present my petition to the Petitions Committee.
Minister of Youth Affairs, Pavithra Wanniarachchi (to the Speaker): Thank you for not harassing us.

| That is why we elected a female president for two terms each 6 years. When you get a unordinary treatment from a collegue in the parliment do not try to divert it to another issue. Our country respect male very much. This may not be applicable to peron like your calibre. |

Saliya,
That is why we elected a female president for two terms each 6 years
During those tenures of the female president, a woman supporter of the UNP was stripped naked by one of the woman president's deputy ministers and paraded on the streets during the famous Wayamba elections!
The deputy minister is STILL a deputy minister, may be that is the deserved punishment!

Slanka women should not get into politics cos they do very badly. We had Sirima, who made our lives very very miserable with her various hal, miris, parippu, 'pollas'. Most affected by her various 'pollas' were women who are mothers.
We had CBK, there is nothing she had done for 15 years. She looted our national wealth and gone back to UK.
Slankan women be satisfied with teaching, nursing, weaving, stitiching, etc but not politics.

Most of them have the guts to go through childbirth once, twice and even three times.
They have more guts than I ever had... |

I have four doctors in my family. Three of them, including my sister are women.
I am sure that being a doctor requires a certain amount of critical thinking ability, do you not think????
on the other side,
Do you have kids??? Have you ever tried raising one on your own, just you and the wife??? If you think that that does not require 'critical thinking capability' and 'risk management ability' you don't know what the heck you are talking about.

Women may shout and scream when they see a cockroach, but they are tough, real tough.
Take Margret Thatcher of UK, also known as the 'iron lady' and as the 'only man' in the cabinet.
Then Golda Meir of Israel who presided over Israel's critical period after the 1967 war.
There is Indra Gandhi who was as tough as they come.
So was Mrs.B although her economic policies in the 70s have been much maligned. Fact is, she laid a strong base for local industries which was UNDONE by the Yanky JR. If she had another term, may be Lanka's destiny would have been different.
Chandrika is no less tough but her major defect was her indeflatable ego and arrogance.
Also these women except Thatcher had one thing in common viz. they didn't have a man by their side. |
