I abhor all forms of violence and hate the JVP like nothing. But Stanley Wijesundera did a lot of things which you have omitted from mention, which may have led to him being targetted:

He was the VC of the Uni of Colombo when he bulldozed the private medical college provisions through the senate. If you need any more information on this, please ask Prof. Narada Warnasuriya.

And Prof. Wijesundera was in the board of governors of the private medical college.

And guess what: His son was in the first batch of students of the private medical college.

This was a misuse of power. There was no concern whatsoever about the huge conflict of interest of being in the NCMC board and being VC.

All was hunkydory until the JVP became powerful in 1987. And everything blew in the face of the VC.

I dont condone his murder but please understand the background.

The room in which he was murdered is still unused. If you visit Colombo University see the closed door in the first floor of the College House.

    Aani,

I took this obituary from Daily mirror.

Though I did know about Prof Himself, I did not want to mention those here.

What I want to say is that Shalitha Wijesundara is his son. Thats all.

Anyways, thanks for your `info` regarding Prof Wijesundara.

BTW, How do you find Carlo`s behavior during the NCMC issue??

    Cheers

[BTW, How do you find Carlo`s behavior during the NCMC issue?? ]

During 1987-88 I was full anti-NCMC and went to every meeting organised by medical students. Once we could even bring Carlo, Colvin Gunaratne, Nalin De Silva and Rajith to the same stage. (Rajitha was in SLMP then.)

Just like Carlo`s, my views too changed with time and I firmly believe we need private medical colleges today.
