The UNP yesterday called on the Speaker W. J. M. Lokubandara to urge the Defence Secretary and the Police Chief to probe the alleged death threats to Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and several others.
UNP Gampaha District MP Jayalath Jayawardene who raised a privilege issue in Parliament yesterday said some international group had sent death threats to the Opposition Leader, Deputy Minister Dilan Perera and several other politicians including himself through a website. He said the death threats were a breach of parliamentary privilege.
According to Dr. Jayawardene the group had labelled him, the Opposition Leader and others as traitors. In addition he said the hit list of this group included leading journalists such as Bandula Padmakumara and Sunanda Deshapriya, New Left Front Leader Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne, CMC Opposition Leader Vasudeva Nanayakara, business tycoons Lalith Kotelawala and Soma Edirisinghe.
TNA MP Mavai Senathiraja who was in the Chair at that stage said he would inform the Speaker on the points raised by Dr. Jayawardene.

| They are now reaping what they sew,as they themselves mingle and patronized criminals and thugs, now they have to put up with the lawlessness in the country. It was their MPs who burnt books in the Parliament, while their leader, the former MP was watching.Thugs and their thuggish ministers seems to rule the scene in SL from time to time, and their chilren rule wild night life of Colombo. |

Death Threats ? .. no surprise
Under-mining of GOSL resolve .. which is what they were about .. resulted in a large number of service-pesonnel being killed. In other circumstances (and, in other countries), people of this kind would probably have been charged for treason .. and dealt with accordingly. |

In other countries this problem would have been sorted out decades ago and your ministers wouldn't have to get threats, unfortuantely for us Tamils (and the common Sinhalese) we are stuck with some tribal racist idiots in power to deal with. |

He does not score any point getting rid of opposition, it is those who want to exploit the situation take the advantage and carry out assasinations. Premadasa's time he never killed leading Political figure's but he got rid of people who tarnish his image, who are infact ordinary people like reporters, trade unionists the most vulnerable. JVP killed more Singhalese politicians and intellectulas than Premadasa. |
