Teachers in government schools, who give private tuition classes during school hours, will be punished, Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha said.
Speaking at a press conference, held at Education Ministry on Tuesday (2), he said instructions to implement this decision were sent to heads of schools and Regional Education Directors.
He also said that students who sit the GCE Advanced Level examination will have to put in at least 80 percent attendance in school before they were allowed to sign the applications for admission to the examination.
No school will be allowed to implement any educational or other school programme in collaboration with any NGO, or INGO without prior approval from the ministry. The policy of the ministry was to ensure that all school children have equal privileges in education he said.
