The Graduate Employees Union will today hold talks with the National Council for Administration to discuss salary issues arising from the circular of 06/2006.
The Union`s convener Chandana Sooriyarachchi told the Daily Mirror yesterday that most graduates recruited under the Government`s job drive programme were designated `Associate Officers.` with a starting salary of Rs. 14,850, which, he said, is lower than that of Management Assistants, recruited from Advanced Level qualified persons.
'Our maximum salary of Rs.23,130, could be attained only on retirement. We feel that the graduates have been degraded through this circular,' he said.
He also said that their members attached to Ministries and other government institutions, are not properly utilized, with no proper tasks being assigned to them.
