In a shocking revelation the now defunct Wayamba distillery which was raided by the Excise Department over the illegal trade in large quantities of liquor had reportedly supplied those stocks to LTTE areas in the East.
The Wayamba Distillery located at Malkaduwawa in Kurunegala which was sealed for not renewing its excise license for this year is said to have supplied more than 40,000 liters of its balance stocks of last year`s production to LTTE-controlled areas.
Excise Superintendent Prabath Jayawickreme said a manager who was arrested said the company had supplied the stocks to uncleared areas with LTTE permission.
The excise sleuths found a special pass to enter LTTE-controlled areas, in the possession of the manager.
A team of investigators raided the Wayamba distillery on Thursday after receiving information that the distillery was secretly operating behind closed doors.
