The Faculty of Arts, of the University of Colombo will reopen on Monday (24). It was closed due to a student clash, Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Tilak Hettiarachchi said. This decision was taken by the University Senate at its last meeting, he said.
The Arts Faculty of the Colombo University has been closed indefinitely after the Faculty Union Election`s day clash between two students groups of the University, after half of the students had cast their votes.
Some undergraduates, including a blind student, were injured and some property damaged in the clash. The Faculty board temporary postponed the election due to the clash and sealed the ballot box.
Professor Hettiarachchi said that the cost of the damage will be recovered from the Students Union of the Arts Faculty.
He said they would seek Attorney General`s advice on the Student Council Election. He has given instructions that the election should not be cancelled.
