Deputy Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya who made a surprise visit to the Inland Revenue Department at Sir Chittampalam Gardiner Mawatha, Colombo met the Commissioner General and Senior Executives of the Department and said new Legislations, if necessary would be introduced to combat any frauds in the Department.
He also said that VAT scandal had shown that large amounts of Government Revenue had been fraudulently swindled. While Commenting CID for its efficiency, he said further probe will continue to detect the culprits responsible for the massive fraud.
The Deputy Minister was of the view that the Inland Revenue Department would net more defaulters in the current year.
He had also appealed to the Public to inform the Commissioner General particular of defaulters, which information the Deputy Minister assures will be kept in confidence.
In his capacity as Deputy Minister of Finance he had instructions from the President to order and take action to nab income tax defaulters.
As MP for Kegalle District he called upon all honest and public minded voters in the District to bring to his notice all misdeals without any fear or favour.
