`Jana Sevana ? houses for 1000 families` implemented under the Jana Sevana Housing Project of Mahinda Chinthana concept will be launched in all parts of the country including North and East from 26th February 2006.
Under the guidance of the Minister of Housing & Construction, Mrs. Ferial Ashraff, the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) will implement this programme and NHDA has targeted to complete the project by the end of June 2006.
The NHDA will provide a Rs. 50,000 loan for each of these house-holders of 1000 families with the technical assistance for the construction of the houses with the participatory approach of the house holders.
Within the next few days NHDA will identify the beneficiary families of this programme with the assistance of the technical staff of NHDA.
Prior to the programme, the NHDA had launched `Jana Sevana ? Grant Housing Programme` in 12 administrative districts of the island with special emphasis on the poverty stricken districts. The programme has been implemented in Matale, Galle, Hambantota, Vavuniya, Ampara, Kurunegala, Puttalarn, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Badulla, Monaragala and Ratnapura.
The NHDA has provided the Rs. 50,000 grant and roofing sheets for each house holder and most of these house holders have completed the basic construction work of these houses.
The NHDA has targeted to complete the Jana Sevana Grant Housing Programme by March 15 and ownership of these houses will be handed over on March 18 2006.
