JVP Propaganda Secretary and Parliamentary Group leader Wimal Weerawansa said Saturday`s blast of an LTTE explosive laden boat off Mannar was a clear indication of LTTE`s continuing violence despite its pretensions of getting ready for a negotiated settlement.
`We call upon the international community, that paints a picture of a tamed tiger, to understand that the LTTE has not renounced its terrorism and to see the point that the terrorist organization is making use of the so-called peace move to strengthen themselves,` he told The Island.
`They are involved in gun running,` Weerawansa, referring to the Saturday blast that killed four LTTE cadres and one Navy personnel at Thalaimannar, said.
As a naval Fast Attack Craft reached this trawler carrying a stock of explosives, arms and ammunition, a `Sea Tiger` suddenly blew himself up causing a huge explosion,` the ministry spokesman said.
The blast completely destroyed the LTTE trawler and four `Sea Tigers` aboard were killed while a navy sailor was injured, and later succumbed to his injuries.
`They, the international community , who are white washing the Tigers, must understand that is not the first such attempt. Last month Navy detected the LTTE smuggling in some 60,000 detonators in Indian fishing boat along the same route,` he said.
`The LTTE shows the rest of the world that they are heading to the negotiating table, but this is what they really do. They are making use of the peace to arm themselves to achieve their political targets through terrorism,` he said.
