The Colombo High Court yesterday took up for hearing the murder trial of Swedish fashion designer, student Yvonne Jonnson.
In this case Don Jude Shramantha Jayamaha is indicted with committing the murder of the 19- year-old on July 1 at the Royal Park Condominium, Rajagiriya.
With the special powers vested in the AG and in order to have a speedy trial the AG has issued a direct indictment before the High Court without non-summary proceedings.
The family members of the murdered girl and the Swedish government have retained counsel to watch their interests.
In this case forty one productions were listed and sixty six witnesses are to give evidence.
According to evidence Yvonne Jonsson and her sister Caroline along with the accused had gone for a get together of Colombo International School students at `My Kind of Place` at Taj Samudra Hotel. Later the deceased had an argument with him and left them.
Jude Shramantha and the deceased`s sister Caroline Jonsson had returned home. Yvonne returned home later.
On the following day the family members were under the impression that Yvonne was at home but her murdered body was found on the 19th floor of the building.
The accused Jude Shramantha was arrested on July 3 and was remanded at Welikada prison.
