President belongs to the entire nation

If the President belongs to the entire nation, can someone please tell me why:

    1. He spoke only in Sinhalese on the Independence day?

    2. All the schools that participated in the Independence day parade were Sinhalese schools?

    3. It was stated that schools from even remote areas were invited for the parade. How many schools from Jaffna were invited?

    4. When showing the names of the regiments in the parade, why that information was given only in Sinhala and English? Is Tamil not a national language in this country?

    Fairplay,

Correction. President does not even belong to the entire Sinhala `nation` (sic). He belongs only to a fraction of the extremist Sinhalayas who were stupid enough to vote for him. (Well, please do not think all Sinhalayas are that stupid.)

However, do not worry. Before long that tine fraction too will disown him, in the same manner the extremists disown SWRD within few years of his tenure.

    Waruna,

Manmohan Singh does not have to represent Tamil Nadu.

You have forgotten that Indian President Abdul Kaalam is from Tamil Nadu (and a Muslim)!

By the way, Manmohan Singh is a Sikh, not a Hindu. So he too represents a minority, not the majority.

India had so many Presidents from the minorities. Zakir Hussain, Muhammad Hidayat Ullah and Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed were Muslims, Giani Zail Singh was a Sikh. Ramaswamy Venkataraman was a Tamil, K. R. Narayanan was not just from Kerala, a tiny state half the size of Sri Lanka but also was from a low caste.

If Sonia Gandhi accepted the post of the PM, India would have a very Roman Catholic president by now.

That was because India, unlike Sri Lanka is a secular state.

For all the fifty eight years in the post-independence Sri Lankan history did we have a single Tamil / Muslim PM or President?

Everyone of the leaders we had were either Sinhalese Buddhists or Christians like SWRD who played the Sinhalese Buddhist card.

It is not a surprise that minorities feel alien here.

    Waruna,

What JHU/JVP petiyas like you cannot understand is defending Tamils is not as same as defending LTTE. These are two entirely different things.

I always defend Tamils. I never defend LTTE.

If you are interested in what I think about LTTE, this is what I have posted in another thread.

I do not believe in terrorism, whether it is LTTE terrorism, JVP terrorism or state terrorism. However LTTE/JHU/JVP hero worshippers can never understand the logic of non-violence. They never understand how powerful the tool of non-violence can be.

There are two qualities I appreciate about the LTTE leadership. He is dedicated for his goal and had been consistent, unlike our own leaders. Apart from that this man is just a blood thirsty butcher, an uncivilised raw wild animal, a `murugaya` as we call in Sinhalese, nothing more. He is not fighting for any homeland for anyone. He is only fighting for his own supremacy. This butcher is no different from the butcher in the South we had - Rohana Wijeweera Sahodaraya the great.

Only a murugaya like Prabhakaran can ever order to kill so many unarmed innocent civilians, whatever the cause. The same hatred I reserve for Osama Bin Larden and Sadaam Hussain I reserve for this bloody animal too.

The main stream is SRI LANKAN. Defending Tamils does not decimate that main stream. Tamils are part of the main stream as any Sinhalese, Muslims or Burgers.

Parents should take care of all their chirdren. A father cannot ignore his duties towards his younger son saying it decimate his elder son.

    Waruna,

You should immediatly inform Mr. Peter Hill. What you say is true, he is running the biggest racist organisation of all...

    SRILANKAN AIR LINES!

Is SRILANKAN President too a racist? What about the SRILANKAN Cricket Team?

My Gosh! We are living in the middle of all these racists!

    Naleen,

I am interested in your `Murugaya` reference.

You say `Apart from that this man is just a blood thirsty butcher, an uncivilised raw wild animal, a `murugaya` as we call in Sinhalese, nothing more. He is not fighting for any homeland for anyone. He is only fighting for his own supremacy. This butcher is no different from the butcher in the South we had - Rohana Wijeweera Sahodaraya the great.`

Muruga is the name of Kathragama God. Muruga did fight as a child - to kill Sooran - the animalistic ruler full of ego. Hence referring to any Tamil Hindu as Muruga is indeed a compliment.

This therefore raises the question about differing cultural interpretations of the same personality - even Divine Personalities.
