LTTE cadres abducted 24 children, 21 of them girls and two teachers, returning home after a tuition class at Vinayagapuram, Tirukkovil in the Ampara District Monday (18) night. They had been taken to an LTTE camp in Kandikudicharu. The parents of the children, hearing of the abduction had gone to the LTTE camp to seek the release of their children, Army spokesman Prasad Samarasinghe said.
The LTTE had refused to free the children and the two teachers. The parents had not returned till yesterday he said.
The SLMM and the Human Rights Commission have been informed of the abductions, he said.
The STF, in charge of security in the area, was not prepared to mount an operation to rescue the children, fearing the LTTE would kill some of the children or their parents, SSP K. H. Jayaweera, Director Operations Eastern Province said.
The Tigers had threatened about 300 students returning to their homes at Kawanchikudi and Kaludewala on Monday (18) after sitting the GCE Ordinary Level Examination when they had refused to join the LTTE, Army sources said.
LTTE cadres, who had confronted the students, had told them there would be reprisals if they (students) did not join the LTTE. Some of the students had fled from their homes in fear, sources said.
A large number of children, in the North and East, fearing abduction by the LTTE, had left their homes for safer areas and the LTTE which was now facing a shortage of fighting cadres is compelled to abduct more children. Most children who attend tuition classes are accompanied by their elders and the ICRC and NGOs
Nearly 300 students who publicly resisted LTTE efforts to recruit them had reportedly jeered at the LTTE cadres and made them to flee the scene empty-handed, sources said.
Parents and teachers later met and decided to inform the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission and other international organizations of the threats made to the children sitting the examination.

The LTTE was merely 'liberating' them and 'saving' them! What's all the fuss about? Edited By - kiwikanga - 20 Dec 2006 02:00:29 GMT |

Quoting Ruchira
If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State. '
Glad you know this... unfortunately the greatest lie of all time to hit Sri Lanka is the lie of a Tamil Home Land and the futile war the terrorists fight based on this lie. And innocent kids like these pay the ultimate price for this ultimate lie perpetuated in the last half a century... |

LTTE wants to say that they are very professional in recruitments. That is why they say that if they find that the recruits are under-aged, they promptly release them. What a Joke!! does it need rocket science to know that children attending O/L classes are none other than teenagers? If they are mistaken about that, well, that gives everybody a hint as to how stupid, low IQ morons the LTTE is!! If the LTTE thinks that the world is naiive enough to beleive their crapp explanations, they are badly mistaken. Only the BBC, AFP and the Tamilnut will believe this.
Terrorists are terrorists! If they open their mouth to say anything, 100% sure they are stone lying. Nothing beyond that.
Their lies are good enough for BBC, Reuters, AFP and the Tamilnut. |

Ahmad,
Even if you are 100 yrs old, if LTTE or someone is trying to recruit you against your will, that is a violation of law.
BBC has reported yesterday in their news bar, that LTTE has abducted 23 children!!

U r spot on mate. But did you see how the BBC article was arranged. When you read between the lines, it is obviuos that the BBC wants to paint a larger-than-life picture about the LTTE. |

Prabhakaran, the Tamil tiger terrorist leader must be procecuted for all the murders he commited.
His own children are safely living in the UK in luxury while he is using other poor sri lankan tamil children for his terrorism which has ruined the lives of ALL tamils in sri lanka
prabakaran was a bicycle thief before he became the terrorist leader |

Kidnapping children by LTTE or Sri Lankan army is a criminal offense. The LTTE area manager found that these children were kidnapped by a commander and immediate action taken for their release to their parents. The parents will confirm these timely corrective action soon.
Special UNESCO Envoy found irrefutable evidence of SL army kidnapping Tamil children to be recruited to Karuna Group, the Govt took no action to force these army soldiers to release these children.
That IS the big difference between the GoSL giving impunity to its Armed Forces and LTTE taking prompt action to remedy the mistakes. |
